  1. Breathe, yes, breathe.

If Iraq looked anything like Kosovo, everyone who is freaking out about it would proclaim it the biggest foreign policy success since World II. We’ll never be so lucky for Iraq to become anything even remotely as successul and liberal as Kosovo. It’s a fun thought experiment, though. If the Middle East in general ever looks like Kosovo, the Arabs will be our best friends on the planet.

Perhaps my perspective is unique because I’m one of the few people who have been to both Kosovo and Iraq. But still.

If I were wrong about Kosovo, the Israelis I interviewed who live there wouldn’t be thriving, they’d be kicked out or dead.

Imagine a Middle East/Africa with open borders, where you could drive from Iraq to Syria to Lebanon and Israel. The economies in the area would certainly be better off.

No matter how reasonable and factual an argument is, there will always be some people who will claim that any positive news about Kosovo is anti-Serb (or pro-Islam, or whatever). It’s hard to reason people out of an idea that they weren’t reasoned into.
