Islamists save the day

When I first read about Somalian pirates seizing a Saudi supertanker, I wondered why the Somalis would attack their benefactors.

This pirate attack on a Saudi tanker is fairly ironic, since the Sauds have been financing rabid Islamism and terrorism in Somalia for years. The Iranians have been financing it too.

It’s not clear which group of pirate/terrorists are responsible for this. If the Saudis manage to save the tanker by bribing or magically ‘reforming’ the pirates, we can assume that this was a Saudi setup to make the KSA appear to be essential allies to the west.

Saudis have been sponsoring radicalism and political/economic unrest in Somalia for years.

Our Wahhabi allies have created a very comfortable niche for themselves by stirring up trouble, then ‘fixing’ the mess they created. With the help of the British, it’s how “God’s Terrorists” managed to get control of Mecca and Medina in 1921, despite the objections of Winston Churchhill, T. E. Lawrence and the majority of the Muslim World.

Looks like they’re doing it again. The Salafi Islamist radicals in Somalia are going to save the world from these nasty, Salafi Islamist radical pirates!

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — A radical Islamic group in Somalia said Friday it will fight the pirates holding a Saudi supertanker loaded with $100 million worth of crude oil.

Abdelghafar Musa, a fighter with al-Shabab who claims to speak on behalf of all Islamic fighters in the Horn of Africa nation, said ships belonging to Muslim countries should not be seized.

In the past two weeks Somalia’s increasingly brazen pirates have seized eight vessels including the huge Saudi supertanker. Several hundred crew are now in the hands of Somali pirates.

What would we do without our rabid Islamist friends?

Let’s make them part of NATO and give them some nukes!

The Saudis may be victimized on the basis of the Willie Horton principle (“because that’s where the money is”). This is not officially part of Islamic theology, but has nontrivial explanatory power where the actual behavior of big-brained primates is concerned. :-)

Also, one should never assume that any two sets of modernity-hating Islamic extremists are allies or even tolerant of each other. There are endless sects and factions. Radical Muslim groups in Pakistan have been known to blow up each other’s mosques over sectarian differences which would seem utterly trivial to anyone else. Of course, in cases where sectarian nuances could justify lucrative attacks on wealthy fellow Muslims, it is all the more likely that they will be found, or invented.

Al-Shabab, the pirates, and the Saudis could easily be (or become) at daggers drawn with each other, much to the benefit of the world in general

Or they could be ‘victimized’ because they hoped this kidnapping would

    1. drive up oil prices
    2. establish the reputation of their Islamist allies as pirate fighters

Oil prices were dipping below $50. According to some estimates, OPEC economies are in trouble when the price goes below $60. The Saudis may be thinking along Willie Sutton lines around now.

This could be part of a war between Iran and Saudi financed militia/pirate/tribal groups, but when the British press, a Saudi/UAE mouthpiece, blames the recent pirate attacks on our fight against Saudi-financed Islamist militias, when those same militias are making well-publicized plans to bravely fight these pirate rougues, you have to wonder.

As many countries as possible should withdraw from the Declaration of Paris, auction off letters of marque, and offer bounties to the newly-licensed privateers for seizing or sinking pirate ships.
